A Ponding Basin is a large excavated site that is primarily used to store a large volume of storm water during storm events. This water is gathered from a network of Inlets and Storm Drain Pipelines within a Drainage Area (watershed) where it is directed to a Ponding Basin for temporary storage. Eventually, the storm water is pumped from the Basin and directed into a waterway or other Basin where it is discharged out of the system entirely.

Each ponding Basin serves only one Drainage Area (watershed), and may have secondary uses for recreation or groundwater recharge.

This Feature Class participates in the “Drainage” Topology, where it shares common geometry with Drainage Area Boundaries, Inlet Boundaries and Landuse Boundaries. A Topology is a collection of rules that, when coupled with a set of editing tools, enables GIS to more accurately represent geometric relationships.

The Basins Feature Class is stored within a Geodatabase (stores a collection of geographic datasets) which is housed on the Districts GIS server.

In addition to storing the Basins geometric shape, this Feature Class also stores “Attribute” information related to the planning and maintenance of the Basins Feature Class.

[ "Basin"
}
