This layer was created to represent the aqueducts and other water distribution features of the State Water Project. One of the purposes for the development of this layer is to enable linear referencing of SWP features and infrastructure along the entire length of the project. Accordingly, the SWP is drawn as polyline vector features. Each branch of the aqueduct is attributed using a distinct route id (field [Route_ID]). Most infrastructure is located along the SWP by using milepost measurements. In order to represent milepost measures along the project, this layer represents the aqueducts in schematic form; that is, where multiple tunnels or pipes are used to transfer water above or below ground, only a single line is drawn to represent the features. Additionally, for continuity of the milepost route measures, the SWP route, as a line, is drawn through reservoirs that are present in the SWP. These features were drawn by reference to NAIP 2005 imagery at a consistent scale of 1:10,000. Accordingly, the current status of this layer should not be used for surveying purposes or other applications where greater accuracy is required. |
